It would be a pleasure seeing Jyant further develop his bedroom-readiness to greater musical heights. Love Overdose is a fairly strong effort for a debut album. Pianos, guitars and synthesizers backed by hip-hop beats are smartly used to create a lush and gentle air for Jyant’s smooth voice to cut through. His style borrows from artists like Maxwell (who he name-drops on Making Love To You) and Miguel, and there are moments where the production brings to mind 808s and Heartbreaks-era Kanye West. Jyant’s musical influences are quite audibly put forth in the record. On Making Love To You he dreams of being “naked under the stars” with his lover while Sugar Rush sees him singing “I’ll wake up and make you breakfast in the morning/ whatever you wanna eat/ I’ll make a sausage/ If you’re vegetarian I’ll make an omelet” While devoutly worshiping the act of making love, he spends an equal amount of time exploring the themes of passion and partnership that sex in a relationship should be based upon. Rather than clinging to the shallow materialism that infests most of the R&B on the radio today, Jyant expresses his sexuality with a mature and respectful sex-positiveness. The album’s 40 solid minutes of lovemaking music pack an intensity greater than anyone could have imagined before pressing play. Jyant‘s Love Overdose is exactly what its title claims it to be. It sucks that I had to choose between Photoshop or a nice Sigma 10-20 macro lens. I couldn't bring myself to just pull it down off BitTorrent (although I will admit to being only a mouse click away!), so I went ahead and bought a real copy. It'll be a while, but eventually I'll get there.īuying Photoshop was a big decision - probably more than it should have been. I can see how learning Photoshop, and being able to do the related post-production work, is key to having stunning images. The photo has been signifigantly sharpened (too much?) using an unsharp mask. On the top 3rd of the photo, I used a grey-to-black gradient to signifigantly darken the area above the waterfall. I then used a gray to white gradient covering the bottom 3rd of the photo in order to signifigantly lighten it up. To clean up the exposure, I used an overlay mask (50% gray) as a 2nd layer. I didn't go so far as to calibrate my monitor(s), but certainly the colors look as they did when I was there out on the Island yesterday. I then corrected the colors using the levels tool. Clicking "done" on this opened the shot in Photoshop. This opened Camera Raw which I used to eliminate the blown highlights. I am a complete and total newbie as of about Noon today.įirst up, I imported everything I shot yesterday into Adobe Bridge, selected my favorite shot.

This, and the things I describe below, are, quite literally, from the 2nd time I've ever run Photoshop.

For this, I pretty much followed the "Frame Effect" from the Photoshop CS3 Photo Effects Cookbook. Last, but not least, I added in the frame. Most of the things I'm learning here are from the Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers. This picture represents my first foray into Photoshop. This is Cascade Falls, in Moran State Park, on Orcas Island.
